oh crap my saves

I DIDN'T BACK UP MY SAVES

...yeah I'm gonna have to replay the two chapters first. I thought I had backed up my saves when switching computers, but it looks like I didn't. Coincidently, I did prepare saves on my Switch, but it doesn't release until tomorrow, and I already purchased the game on PC so :shrug:

I got some other things to do today first, and oh hey the internet got knocked out.

Chapter 1

I got out my recording from 2018 and followed along to recreate my vessel from it. Unfortunately, I failed due to my past indecisiveness, so it ended up differently. That's alright though. I consider this to be destiny, so I stuck a name to it... only to realize their name is different from mine. So I used a nickname for myself instead. Off to a great start.

Something that stuck with me is how the game tries to hide its name from you initially. Like in SURVEY_PROGRAM, you don't know the name until it's revealed at the end. And the window title bars only give out vague stuff like "The Beginning." Initially I thought this was to keep up the "survey" facade up (meaning that it's incomplete), but now, as a paid game, it's just intentional.

It's starting to get difficult to remember what the base game looked like from all the fan videos people have made lol. Looking at the TV, my initial thought was "that's totally gonna get replaced in Chapter 4." But this was only because I remember watching a particular video where it got replaced with a flat-screen instead, presumbly from the actions that happened in the prior chapter. That was a good video; everything felt off but it was for a reason.

What even is the beginning part of the closet Dark World supposed to be? It's all goopy; maybe to represent ink? And dust bunnies too. Just all freaky with the imagery of eyes and holes everywhere.

Not to mention how the initial Castle Town is all empty except for Ralsei, and how that gets replaced entirely in Chapter 2. Not that Ralsei has bad intentions, but what happened for him to be the only Prince of Darkness.

Actually with that and after watching The Legend, we don't actually get to see Ralsei seal the foundains with Kris and Susie. Could it be us, the player, to be the true heir foretold to seal the fountains? Or maybe he just seals it form a distance idk

Field of Hopes and Dreams is still soo good. It never fails to be groovy.

Well now Ralsei is saying only Kris can seal the fountains so I guess I just haven't been paying attention :P

Funny how every leader except Spade King is free from their cages in Chapter 2. We just kinda forget about the Four Suits Leadership lol.

I love the fact that Ralsei apparently learned that "Stoole Formation R" variant in Ch.2 from Lancer here. The more you know.

During these Ralsei intermissions, I've always wondered if he's telling Kris some important info about the prophecy & stuff involving the SOUL. Like he acknowledges it when testing out the dummy, but Susie cannot. Seems like she possesses more willpower than Kris to make her own decisions. Though that's only from observations within the vicinity of the soul.

(It feels strange talking as if Kris is a puppet, but I guess that's what the game is getting at.)

What exactly is the end goal for this mysterious man to be "corrupting" people like Jevil and Spamton? Is it to suggest that one can go mad with power if they're left on their own? Or is it simply that no matter how satisfied someone might be, there will always be something that keeps them wanting more? Hmm.

Wondering more and more, especially with Seam's words, if the ending to this game equivocates to the same conclusion, but differnt connotations. But then what are the eggs for? Maybe the egg guy and the mysterious man are two differnt beings.

Maybe the King can see the soul too...

Wondering if being abandoned in the closet has caused distress to the King to have gone scorched earth with Lighteners. But if the prophecy is true, they can't switch roles in this Light/Dark ecosystem like he insists of doing. Doesn't mean they can't try though.

I'll admit that the first time I saw the fountain cutscene, my mind jumped to HELP_tale, but looking at it now, the only resemblance they both have is a light striking in the center of the screen with the soul present.

Well I'm definitely tired from all that. It was fun getting to explore the first Dark World again and see the things I've missed, but I wished I had the foresight to have done this earlier. Oh well. Maybe next time I'll remember to actually back these files up.
