DELTARUNE TOMORROW

Hi everyone! I didn't think this would be the first post made in over a year (almost a year since a site update in general... oops). But considering the occassion, I decided to break through my perfectionism and begin to implement small updates to the site instead of dropping a massive one every time. No promises that I'll actually keep this up though.

What can I say about Deltarune that hasn't alaready been said?

For me, I use it as a marker to measure the distance between times in my life. Like with the first chapter releasing, I was a freshman in college. That morning I woke up to the news that some weird survey program was released.

Started playing through it ("character creation?" "is this online all the time?" "ok this big door is where the demo will end"), only for me to realize the demo is taking too long before barely making to my first class. Throughout the day, I snuck in time to play parts of the game ("holy shit this music" "the WHAT squad??" "knight? yeah it's getting late") before beating it. Seeing those credits, the singing, and the title drop made it have an importance I wasn't prepared to experience that day.

The second time was after COVID hit. Same college, same game, but different places and thoughts. I was feeling more isolated from everyone else, but there was some comfort knowing I wasn't the only one hyped for this game (which was revealed on a not-so-suspcious anniversary livestream earlier that week). It certainly blew my expectations ("goddamn spamton...") and I was happy to plow through it overnight into the early morning. Maybe not the smartest decision given how tired I was that day, but still, I had my fun.

As for the new chapters...

I was content with waiting for any updates to the game. It certaintly helped to make those reveals that more impactful. There were a couple of memes that I caught on, like those "Friends Inside Us" and "Particle Bro," though I don't subscribe to the label of "fandom."

But stll, it was neat watching the creativity that came out of fan games, art, and music. Like, holy shit. I'm of the belief that if Deltarune were to for some reason cease production, the fans of the game would take into their own hands and craft a fulfilling conclusion. It'd be appropriate given the themes found in the game include freedom and making your own path.

So yeah, I'm definitely excited to play more Deltarune. I have something of a tradition where I record my thoughts or memories down every time a new update is released. With Chapter 1, I screenrecorded pretty much the entire playthrough (though I'd need to scrub all the names seen if I were to ever upload it). Chapter 2 took a more basic approach and screenshotted everything. With how big this next update is, and the fact that I wanna be off of social media (to keep spoilers at bay), I wanted to be more ambitious this time around.

These games mean a lot to me, and I'd hate to be the cause of ruining someone else's experience, so that's what I'm gonna do: track my progress here every day I intend to play. Future posts will contain spoilers, so be on the lookout for that. But I'll make sure to post a warning about it on the blog title/top of page, and collapse some thoughts/screenshots/sketches that might come out of it as well.
