Sprite of a hammer and hard hat under blueprints This is my hacking workshop. take at look at progress on some of my projects, mostly (if not all) related to hacking a little-known game known as Super Mario World.

Categories ordered by most recent first. entries in italics represent an unreleased project. all downloads come as either .bps patches or .zip files, plus additional information such as credits.

To play these hacks, you're gonna want to use FLIPS, a patching program, with your legitimate copy of SMW.

Demos

Every demo strives to be a full hack one day.

Windows Me: Mario Edition
Last updated on April 10th, 2020 (on hiatus)

The very first hack idea I had (after the last one), but surely not an original one. I stopped working on it since I was still new to hacking, and if I ever wanted it to be more than just "Mario in Windows," I needed more experience.

No downloads since it's always been more of an alpha state, but you can find the last demo on the site.

Beginner's Hack
Last updated on June 21st, 2019

The first hack I posted on the fourms, and it shows. It was a test to see if I could make levels in Lunar Magic, and while it's nothing spectacular, it was a fun exercise, and it got me more invested into joining the community.

Certain levels would be later repurposed for an unreleased project, Super Dabio World.

Contest Entries

Levels made for a contest.

More details will be revealed once the contest is over.

[VLDC #13] it's new donk!
Last updated on May 29th, 2022

I love unconventional level themes like standard buildings and rooftops, so I decided to turn that appreciation into a level. The name is a reference to a course from Platform Racing 2, a game I used to play a lot around 2009 or so.

Also provided is a download link for the previous iteration of my entry. It's complete (as in, you can beat it); however, I felt like the level lacked in actual design save for a few puzzles, which resulted in the creation of the final submission instead.

[72hoQLDC] Super Mini Compact
Last updated on April 4th, 2022

The concept was that Mario can't jump, thus having to rely on context sensitive actions to move around a condensed form of the original game. This was done by using an UberASM patch that teleports the player, and each "action" was simply a secondary exit to a room. You can see how complicated things got (i.e., the more actions in a room, the more exits required).

This was another idea that suffered from a lack of puzzles under the allotted time, and thus, unfinished.

[QLDC #1] Plumb vs Koopas
Last updated on August 1st, 2021

Play as one of Mario's dead selves as he tries to get back to the surface. Make sure nothing (i.e., any sprites) end up touching one of your heart blocks (soul fragments), or it's back to the beginning of the level for you.

Spend coins on power-ups, or (in certain levels) press the shoulder buttons + run to grab the closest (carryable) sprite.

This submission was rushed due to life stuff, as seen in the later levels.

[24hoSMW #14] Bit to the Future
Last updated on July 11th, 2021

Theme: Resource sets.

Toxic air has woken Mario from cryogenic slumber, signaling it's time for the plumber to right wrongs and topple the capitalistic nightmare that is the unchecked future.

[24hoSMW #13] Discord (SMWC Edition)
Initially submitted on December 28th, 2020
Last updated on January 8th, 2021

Theme: Light.

Don't you just love light themes? This hack tells a short story of a new hire clearing their name after being framed for a decision that wasn't theirs to make.

This entry's premise was so silly that I kept working on it up until that winter's C3.

(To clarify, the EX version is the completed version; "As Released" is the original contest submission.)

[VLDC #12] Illusive Dreams
Last updated on August 19th, 2020

I have some thoughts.

For the first contest I entered, it was fun. I've heard about VLDC before, and I knew I didn't want to miss my chance in participating. Though, it's obvious that I needed more experience if I was going to place well lol.

Conceptually-speaking, I like how the level turned out. Exploring the world of both the present and the past, the dead and the living, all in your dreams: that I like. But this wasn't an environmental storytelling contest, and ultimately, the level design suffered from being too cluttered and unclear.

That's why I recommend downloading the "last good version." This is the better version (imo) before any frivolous changes were added.

Fun fact: this was originally titled "Coin Heaven on Earth."

[24hoSMW #12] 4am
Last updated on March 1st, 2020

Theme: Four.

Day-long contests are so fun. They're spontaneous; you never know what the goal is until the day of, and you gotta rush to get your idea in on time.

There's not much to say about this one, however. Go through four variations of the same level until you hit the goal.

[BLDC #1] Orange Cream Dreams
Last updated on October 9th, 2019

This would've been my first contest entry. It got too bloated, however, and thus had trouble finishing the level. Still, I like the palette I gave it.
