Nintendo Entertainment System
Status: Working (refurbished)
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Obtained by a family member during a summer in high school (I think?). While it's neat, I honestly don't have any use for it considering how easy it is to emulate.
Sega Genesis (2)
Status: Working; Needs repair
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Got with a large box of games from a garage sale. This one (pictured) has relatively few issues (aside from a broken reset button), while the other one has issues with games & controller input not registering.
Super NES
Status: Working (refurbished)
Usage: Sometimes
Comments: Given as a Christmas gift. I already had the classic (see below), but playing on real hardware after relying solely on emulation was a bit of a cool feeling.
Nintendo 64
Status: Working
Usage: Almost never
Comments: Found in a yard sale when I was like 10. Came with the wires, two controllers, and two games (one was Tony Hawk's Pro Skating).
PlayStation 2
Status: Working (refurbished)
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Currently only plays burned PS1 games (oops). Might need a laser replacement which I'm not totally thrilled about.
The first console I remember our family owning, except that one was silver. Good times.
Xbox 360 (2)
Status: Working (E); Broken (S)
Usage: Almost never
Comments: E was given by a family friend, which needed an HDD replacement. Used a spare from a laptop, and it works just fine.
S was trashed by a local college. Missing most accessories, including the HDD. Potentially unsalvageable.
Wii
Status: Working
Usage: Sometimes
Comments: Found in a thrift store. It was missing its cables, so I used some from the Wii U, and it worked! It even had a copy of Wii Sports stuck in the tray. Added a sticker to its side.
Wii U
Status: Working
Usage: Almost never
Comments: Haven't used as much since the Switch (see below) + thrift Wii.
I have mixed feelings toward this system. Good memories playing Mario Chase with friends, so-so memories with Wii mode. Miiverse was a thing, too.
PlayStation 4
Status: Working*
Usage: Sometimes
Comments: Shared with household. It works, but the fan runs at high speeds and is rather noisy.
SNES Classic
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Picked it up while it was on sale. Tried showing this off to my college friends once with mixed results.
Game Boy Advance
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Purchased from one of those retro gaming stores you see at malls. Bought Warioland and a (bootleg) copy of Pokemon Ruby on the same day.
GBA SP
Status: Working
Usage: Often
Comments: I remember one of my old classmates brought it to school once and thought it was the coolest thing.
It's still cool, but it's become more expensive to find one in nice condition. I think lucked out getting this kiosk display.
Nintendo DSi (3)
Status: Working (White*, Blue); Broken
(Blue)
Usage: Sometimes
Comments: The white one was a birthday present. Stopped turning on after a few years (maybe the battery connection got fried?). Currently, the motherboard is swapped with one from a blue unit. RIP (rest in parts).
Nintendo 3DS
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Previously my sibling's. Had to perform a top screen replacement, which was tedious.
Did you know that 3DS's are easy to hack? In this essay I will
PlayStation Vita
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Originally purchased secondhand as a Christmas gift. Thought I could throw some PSP games on it. Managed to become more work than what I was used to.
Nintendo 3DS XL
Status: Working
Usage: Sometimes
Comments: An upgrade from the DSi. If I'm being honest, I've never gotten over how heavy this thing is to hold.
Nintendo Switch
Status: Working
Usage: Often
Comments: It's the hype around this console that won me over. 'A console that can play modern games on the go! Doesn't that sound cool?'
Nowadays, this is mostly used to play Mario Kart lmao
Game & Watch: SMB Edition
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: It's small and premium-feeling. But the thing has only three games, two of which are very similar and Ball.
You could staple a red cap and moustache on a piece of cardboard and I would purchase it the next day.
Gizmos, doodads, and more.
iPod 4th Gen (2)
Status: Working (B/W); Working* (Photo)
Usage: Rarely
Comments: I watched too much of DankPods' videos during the pandemic that it got me to go out & obtain one for myself.
The Photo has Rockbox installed; however, the hard drive appears to be failing.
iPod Nano 6th Gen
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: The first iPod I bought on eBay. Came with a watchband accessory, which is a plus. (the first apple watch...)
Sony Boombox
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Previously owned by a neighbor.
Excellent sound. Love the buttons on it. Haven't tried recording from it, but maybe one day.
Sony CD Walkman
Status: Working*
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Skips a lot, but otherwise works.
RCA Cassette Player
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Another thrift store find. Since I found an old box of cassettes not too long ago, it made sense to have a portable player handy.
Sentry AM/FM Radio
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: I remember purchasing this from a Family Dollar as a way to listen to music when I went out biking. Didn't really use it for that purpose (why bother other ppl with the top 40), but it was still nice to have.
VideoNow
Status: Working*
Usage: are you serious lol
Comments: Found at a garage sale with 2 discs. More sensitive than the Walkman, but it's playable.
CRT + VCR Combo (2)
Status: Working
Usage: Sometimes
Comments: Emerson + JVC. TV was one that was never thrown out; VCR found in a flea market. Missing remotes for both. I should fix the slight warping on the TV.
ASUS Laptop
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Previously used as my main PC. It's one of those budget laptops you find in places like Walmart. Currently used as a test dummy.
BlackBerry Playbook
Status: Working*
Usage: Almost never
Comments: Used as the family tablet for a time. The Micro USB port got stripped, and thus the tablet was left to die for a decade before resurrecting it with a rapid charger (which was a separate port).
Kobo Aura HD
Status: Working
Usage: Almost never
Comments: Found used online, thinking I could read loaned library books natively on it. I was wrong.
Kobo Clara HD
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: A newer model that dropped SD card support in favor of Wi-fi. It's a neat little e-book; if only I spent more time reading on the thing.
JVS VHS-C Camcorder
Status: Broken
Usage: Almost never
Comments: The family camcorder for a time. Doesn't turn on anymore. We tried hacking an AC cable for it, but nothing would display on the TV.
Panasonic VHS-C Camcorder
Status: Working
Usage: Rarely
Comments: Found at a thrift store. Works with the previous cam's battery & charger (albeit limited as Ni-Cd batteries lose their charge with age).
Sprint Cellphone
Status: Needs repair
Usage: Never
Comments: Previously owned by my dad. The only things of interest were that it had a nice front neon blue LCD, and it had Ms. Pac-Man on it. Battery ballooned up when I tried to charge it (!), but it might work with a new one.
Various Tracfone phones (3)
Status: Working (except the last one)
Usage: Never
Comments: Various cellphones owned by different family members. I don't have any uses for them, but I dunno; it's neat they can be reused as MP3 players, but like, who needs a separate device these days? (proceeds to purchase ipods)
Virgin Mobile cellphone
Status: Working
Usage: Almost never
Comments: The first cellphone I owned. Basic Java phone; it could do web, buy ringtones, take pictures, etc. One day, I want to crack this open and export the few pics & ringtones I've saved.
